Jackbox in French: where things stand in 2026
Contrary to a stubborn belief, Jackbox is no longer "English only". Five titles are officially translated into French, voice acting included: Party Pack 9 and 10, the Party Starter (three games), Drawful 2 and Quiplash 2 InterLASHional. Party Pack 11, released in October 2025, is English only, like packs 1 to 8.
Since April 2026 Jackbox also plays without a PC or console: The Jackbox Party Essentials (Drawful 2, Quiplash 3, Fibbage 4) is included with a Netflix subscription on compatible TVs, with the phone as controller through the Netflix Game Controller app.
Everything else relies on unofficial fan translations you install yourself. They exist, some are good, but they are neither guaranteed nor available on consoles.
What still gets in the way for a French table
The entry price. 29.99 EUR for a five-game pack, and the urge to buy a second one comes fast. For an occasional night it is the price of a board game, for a game you will not bring out every month.
The hardware. Outside Netflix you need a PC or console hooked to a screen, and someone who knows how. In a student flat or a holiday rental that is not a given. And no Jackbox game plays phones-only, on a terrace or at a campsite.
The writing. Even translated, Jackbox games are written for an American audience: the references, the celebrities, the comic timing. The official translations are careful, but a French table does not laugh at the same things.
What remains unbeatable, and it needs saying: the production. Voice acting, music, animation, ten years of writing. No French platform has that level of polish today.
The three French alternatives, by name
PlaySobr (playsobr.com). 15 free games, no account or install, written in French: deduction (L'Espion, the moderator-free Loup-Garou), drawing (Le Croquis Perdu), voting (Le Plus Susceptible), card rituals, and two AI-judged games. 2 to 12 players. Its particularity: everything plays phones-only, the TV is a premium option (4.99 EUR/month or 19 EUR lifetime, launch offer, only the host pays). Limits: no quiz, 12 players max, and a more understated production than Jackbox.
Soiro (soiro.fr). 7 screen-centric games, 14.99 EUR once to unlock everything (11.99 EUR with referral), free demo, 2 to 12 players. The closest to the Jackbox model: the screen shows the game, the phones are controllers. Limits: the screen is mandatory, and free stops at the demo.
La Stev' (lastev.fr). About twenty TV-show style activities (blind test, quiz, karaoke, mini-games), a moderator-free Werewolf and an AI-generated murder party, 3 to 50 players, freemium (credits or a 9 EUR/month subscription). The pick for big groups and bars. Limits: screen required, a catalog geared to hosting rather than long-form table games.
Which one, by table
You want the closest thing to Jackbox, pay once and play in front of the same TV: Soiro.
You are more than 12, or you run a bar, a wedding, a seminar: La Stev'.
You want to pay nothing and install nothing, sometimes play without a screen, and vary games within one night: PlaySobr.
You are English speakers, equipped, and want the best production level: stay with Jackbox, or try Party Essentials on Netflix if you subscribe.
What the French alternatives still lack
A quiz worthy of Trivia Murder Party: neither PlaySobr nor Soiro has one; La Stev' has quizzes, but in a hosting format. Audio production: nobody in France voices their games. And catalog depth: Jackbox lines up around fifty games, the French platforms between 7 and 20.
In return, all three offer what Jackbox does not: games written for a French table, a zero or one-time entry price, and for PlaySobr, the freedom to play with no screen at all.
Coming from Jackbox: where to start on PlaySobr
Missing Drawful: Le Croquis Perdu, drawn telephone with an animated reveal. Quiplash: Le Plus Susceptible, voting among friends. Push the Button or Fakin' It: L'Espion and Le Loup-Garou, hidden roles with no moderator. The full mappings, line by line, are in our PlaySobr vs Jackbox head-to-head.
